“A ShareMag foi criada em Maio de 2009 com base no blog ShareMagazine (http://www.sharemag.blogspot.com). Vindo contrariar o lado efémero das notícias que por lá eram divulgadas, afirmou-se desde o início como uma plataforma que dava total liberdade de publicação aos seus intervenientes. Tentando tocar todos os meios artísticos (com particular destaque para a Fotografia), pretendia dar a conhecer aquilo que se faz na contemporaneidade, assumindo-se como uma montra para novos autores ao mesmo tempo que dava destaque aos artistas já consagrados.

Neste momento a ShareMag está restringida a uma publicação electrónica bimensal que no quarto número reformulou a sua estética, tentando ir ao encontro de um design mais adaptado a uma possível plataforma impressa. Ainda não temos certezas sobre o futuro que a revista vai assumir, pela relação que pode ser criada entre o universo analógico e o digital, mas os nossos objectivos continuam os mesmos, e gostávamos de ser lembrados como um lugar onde podem ser conhecidos novos autores e projectos actuais.

José Carlos Marques nasceu em 1980 na Póvoa de Varzim, onde vive actualmente. Tirou a licenciatura em Tecnologias da Comunicação Audiovisual, no Instituto Politécnico do Porto, e trabalha neste momento para a Câmara Municipal da Póvoa de Varzim, onde desempenha funções de Cobertura Fotográfica de Eventos, Tratamento e Manutenção do Arquivo Fotográfico e Produção de Fotografia Institucional.

Desde o início de 2009 associou-se à Cooperativa Filantrópica, na curadoria de exposições, e em Maio do mesmo ano deu início à revista electrónica ShareMag. É o editor do blog ShareMagazine.” (José Carlos Marques)

Artech 2010 is the fifth international conference held on the topic of Digital Arts. It aims at promoting contacts between Iberian and International contributors concerned with the concept, production and dissemination of Digital and Electronic Art.

Artech 2010 aims at bringing the scientific, technological and artistic community together, while promoting the interest in the digital culture and its intersection with art and technology as an important research field, a common space for discussion and exchange of experiences, a forum for emerging digital artists understanding and be delighted with new forms of digital expression.

We are currently accepting photography submissions for our fourth annual juried show – New Directions.

New Directions seeks to discover new talent in the world of photography. Past shows have included the works of Joseph O. Holmes, Priya Kambli and Joelle Jensen. Each year emerging artists have an opportunity to have their work seen by a nationally recognized figure in the field of photography. From these entries a cohesive show emerges for display at Wall Space in January, and this year we are excited to have 23 Sandy Gallery in Portland join forces to show ND10 in Portland during the month of February.

All submissions for this exhibition are considered for gallery representation. wall space directors and associates, as well as 23 Sandy Gallery will review the work, however the galleries review will not affect the outcome of the selection process.

Juror – Carol McCusker, PhD – Curator of Photography, Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA), San Diego, CA

Carol McCusker is curator of photography at the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego. She received her Ph.D. in art history with an emphasis on the history of photography and film history at the University of New Mexico (UNM), Albuquerque. She has curated numerous exhibitions at MoPA and UNM, and is contributing author to Paul Outerbridge (Taschen, 1999); First Photographs: William Henry Fox Talbot and The Birth of Photography (powerHouse, 2002); James Fee: The Peleliu Project (Seraphin, 2002); Phil Stern: A Life’s Work (powerHouse, 2003); Terry Falke: Observations in an Occupied Wilderness (Chronicle, 2006); and Breaking the Frame: Pioneering Women in Photojournalism (MoPA, 2006) The Roads Most Traveled: Migration Photographs by Don Bartletti (2006), Rebels & Revelers: Experimental Decades 1970s-1980s (2007), Public Privacy: Wendy Richmond’s Surreptitious Cellphone (2007), and The Photographer’s Eye (2008)

McCusker’s freelance writing has been published in The Photo Review, Communication Arts, and she is a regular contributor to B&W and Color magazines. In recent years, McCusker has reviewed portfolios at Houston Fotofest, Review Santa Fe, Photo L.A., Atlanta Celebrates Photography, Photo Lucida, and in November, the Lishui Photo Festival, China. She was also a nominator for the 2009 ICP Infinity Awards, and a Juror for the 2008 Julia Dean Berenice Abbott Award.

A revista Bombart 06 irá ser lançada no próximo Sábado, dia 7 de Novembro, na Livraria Leitura Books & Living, pelas 15h, no Porto. O lançamento irá coincidir, uma vez mais, com as inaugurações das galerias do quarteirão da Miguel Bombarda.

Esta sexta edição conta com a colaboração, entre outros, da coordenadora do AntiFrame – Independent Curating Project, na rubrica “Na Opinião de…”. O artigo de opinião de Cláudia Camacho intitula-se Arte Ilusionada ou a Desilusão da Arte.

A revista bimestral Bombart é editada pela Associação Projecto – Núcleo Desenvolvimento Cultural, de Vila Nova de Cerveira. A coordenação editorial está a cargo de Helena Osório e a direcção é de Augusto Canedo.

The Centre of Attention is seeking proposals – ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT: THE PAVILION OF POSTCONTEMPORARY CURATING

The skeletal remains of Sutton Scarsdale Hall continue to decay. A dilapidated wreck of a structure, you enter at your own risk. This decay needs to be resisted and Sutton Scarsdale needs to live again…

In the very heart of England, Sutton Scarsdale Hall is to become the Pavilion of Postcontemporary Curating, a new international art facility set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, dedicated solely to new curating.

The current hall is a perfect exhibition/performance space: lit from above, with high walls, neutral floor. As a functioning work of art/art centre, it should provide everything the contemporary curator requires, and be able to evolve as those needs change… Importantly it will facilitate new media production as well as old, it will have a library, archive, research facilities, studios and accommodation as well as a gallery dedicated to the history of the house.

It will be a base for new ways of looking at art and its production.

A sculpture, it will become part of the regional landscape and act as a beacon to advanced ideas and art praxis in the regional and international scenes.

With this call for entries, the Centre of Attention is seeking proposals for the re-imagining of Sutton Scarsdale Hall, Derbyshire into a pavilion of postcontemporary curating.

This call is open to architects, designers, artists, curators and others. All ideas, gestural, utopian or pragmatic are welcome.

Não vou comentar o caso “Dalila Rodrigues”. Não gosto de falar daquilo que não sei. E como ainda não consegui perceber o que na realidade aconteceu, vou remeter-me ao silêncio. Mas o caso “Dalila Rodrigues” fez-me reavivar um sentimento que eu penso escontrar-se algo recalcado em mim.

Aquilo que vos gostaria de confidenciar aqui é o seguinte: eu não consigo dormir na noite anterior a ter uma reunião com um vereador da cultura, em Portugal.  Está dito. Podem gozar comigo mas isto é a mais pura verdade. Sempre que tenho uma reunião agendada, começo a ficar com dores de cabeça, falta de apetite e um nervosismo que chega a irritar o meu círculo íntimo de familiares e amigos.

Para já, por todo o aparato que se cria quando entra o vereador da cultura na sala de reuniões. Parece que está a entrar o Papa na sala e eu sou a coitadinha que ali vai apresentar uma proposta de exposição; a maluquinha que vai aborrecer alguém com o trabalho de um artista, também ele maluquinho. Depois, porque apresentar uma proposta a um vereador da cultura é o mesmo que estar a apresentar uma proposta a um árabe (podia ser a um chinês ou a um indiano), ou seja, fico sempre com a sensação de que não estamos a falar a mesma língua, que a pessoa não está a perceber nada do que digo. Ele não sabe de que artistas estou a falar, ele não vibra com as ideias apresentadas, ele não percebe nada de História da Arte, ele não visita exposições e os únicos artistas que muitas vezes conhece são os da vila. Tenho ouvido imensas pérolas que me têm deixado desanimada: “Isto é muito à frente”, “Isto é muito contemporâneo”, “Isto é muito mórbido. Não tem aí uma coisa mais alegrete?”, “O Sr. Presidente não vai gostar desta ideia”, “Temos de expor as redes dos pescadores da aldeia neste centro cultural e não temos mais espaço”, “Não podemos dispensar mil euros com este projecto porque vamos pagar dez mil ao cantor X para as festas Y” (entendo que haja prioridades, mas calma aí).

Só queria lembrar o seguinte: são as autarquias que mais perto estão dos munícipes. São as autarquias que têm o poder,  principalmente, o Vereador da Cultura,  de mudar mentalidades a nível cultural no nosso país.

Mais não digo. Acho que depois disto não voltarei a ser recebida por parte de nenhuma câmara municipal do país para apresentar mais propostas de exposição. É o risco que se corre. Não queria deixar de frisar que, neste assunto, também existem “excepções à regra”. A esses, felicito-os.

Drawing, we artists are all doing it again. In this complex time of new energies and new directions in every facet of our lives, drawing, the ancient and perhaps the first method of self-expression, has been taken up by artists as never before. It is as if we have retrofitted the medium for defining and thinking about this ultra-modern time of overwhelming media capabilities, simply in pictures made directly by the power of the hand alone.

National and international artists may submit artwork for this exhibition.

10 artists will be chosen for distinction from this exhibition by Jason Andrew, Director of Norte Maar, and executor of the Jack Tworkov Estate. The gallery will publish a catalogue of the work of the 10 artists. The gallery maintains a Flat File of work on paper for invited artists. Artist Representation will be given to selected artists.

The gallery is dedicated to the presentation of contemporary visual art in thematic monthly group shows providing opportunities for artists to exhibit their work within a context of current international practice from varied ethnic and cultural contexts. All viewpoints and mediums are welcome. The gallery’s mission is to provide an opportunity for artists to become exhibiting members in the arts community of New York City, whether they are showing for the first time or have years of exhibition experience.

The gallery is located in the historic Scalamandre Silks Building in Long Island City, one of New York City’s most vibrant arts neighborhoods. With magnificent views of the Manhattan skyline, the building houses art galleries, performing arts spaces, and studios. Eu não conheço o Dr. Pedro Lapa nem o Dr. Pedro Lapa me conhece. Eu não conheço a Dra. Helena Barranha (a nova directora do museu) nem a Dra. Helena Barranha me conhece.

Aquilo que conheço e que condeno (se na minha humilde atitude poderei condenar alguma coisa) é que os Portugueses são avessos às mudanças. E eu ainda não consegui perceber por que razão.

Em Espanha, país onde vivi e trabalhei durante dois anos (sou tão nova e já tanto devo a Espanha), os cargos na Cultura gozam de uma rotatividade invejável. E não é por se ser um excelente director que teremos um cargo vitalício num museu. Dou o exemplo do excelente papel desempenhado por Rafael Doctor no MUSAC, em León. Contudo, Rafael Doctor já abandonou o cargo e entregou a pasta a uma outra pessoa, que se espera que continue a linha programática de excelência do seu antecessor mas que traga também alguma mudança/novidade.

É esta mudança que se anseia. É esta mudança que cria novas sinergias.

O Dr. Pedro Lapa chegou ao museu como conservador em 1990 e assumiu a direcção em 1998. Estamos em 2009. Façam as contas.

Entendo e respeito que haja gente a assinar um manifesto contra o afastamento do Dr. Pedro Lapa do Museu do Chiado. Contudo, não contem com a minha assinatura. Não que ela seja importante. Mas não será, com certeza, mais uma.

The HORS PISTES film festival offers a showcase to unique and audacious videos and films that move away from traditional genres to blend fiction with documentary, contemporary art or experimental formats. The festival, which is non competitive, will be held from February 19th to 28th, 2010, at the Centre Pompidou. The deadline for entries is November 15th, 2009.

SUBMISSIONS

• Any international 25-65 minutes length work completed after January 2008 is eligible for entry.

• No submission fee is required (or requested).

• Works may be screened in theatre in either 16 or 35 mm film format or in Beta or mini DV video.

DVD of the work is to be sent, imperatively accompanied by the sender’s contacts – at:

• By taking part in the festival, participants automatically and fully accept all stipulated terms and conditions. The projection of a selected film may not be cancelled by its owner or anyone having rights to this film.

WORK SELECTION

• Works are pre-selected by the organising committee and then shown in a large screen theatre to a selection committee, composed of program planners of the Centre Pompidou (from the Direction du développement culturel service cinema and the Musée national d’art moderne) as well as a member of the Agence du court métrage. The selection committee is not required to justify its decisions.

• Participants whose work has been selected are notified by e-mail no later than February 15, 2010.

PROJECTION OF SELECTED WORKS

• Film copies must be of sufficiently good quality for theatre screening. Any defects or special instructions concerning copies should be mentioned in writing and accompany the submission.

• Every copies of the selected works must be received by HORS PISTES no later than February 1st, 2010.

• Shipment of the copy both to the festival and back to its sender is paid for and organized by HORS PISTES.

• HORS PISTES is responsible for the film copy from the time it leaves the sender until the copy is finally returned. Should the copy be lost, stolen or damaged, HORS PISTES will reimburse any costs related to producing an identical replacement copy, based on a comparison of net prices in different countries.

• Any claims relating to the state of the film copy must be addressed to HORS PISTES no later than 14 days after the festival closes.

• A royalty fee of €100 (before tax) will be paid to the owner of the work.

• When HORS PISTES is travelling the owner accept the diffusion of the film and will be paid €100 also.

ATTENDING THE FESTIVAL

• Travel and accommodation expenses of participants wishing to attend the festival may be paid for, partially or totally, by HORS PISTES, at the discretion of the organization.

• All participants will be invited to an HORS PISTES dinner event during the festival.

• Participants agree to attend one of the discussion panels organized during the festival.

USE OF FILM CLIPS FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSESE

• Participants grant HORS PISTES permission to use freeze frame images from submitted DVDs to promote his or her film and the festival. Participants also give HORS PISTES the right, free of charge, to use an excerpt of his or her film, no more than two minutes in length, to be shown on television, the Internet or incorporated into a trailer, for the purpose of promoting the festival.

Este festival terá lugar em Budapeste, em Junho de 2010. Podem participar nele todos os artistas de multimedia com o máximo de 3 trabalhos. Os filmes e vídeos candidatos devem pertencer à categoria de video arte e terem sido realizados depois de 1 de Janeiro de 2007. Todas as candidaturas devem incluir a ficha de inscrição, o trabalho em vídeo com o formato ‘A VI’ (com o tamanho máximo de 1,5 Gb), gravado em DVD, um CD com uma pequena biografia do autor (entre 50 a 100 palavras), uma pequena descrição sobre o trabalho, duas imagens do trabalho em jpg. Todas as candidaturas fora da Hungria deverão ter a seguinte indicação no envelope: ‘DVD for festival. cultural use only. No commercial value‘.

Artist-run galleries regularly staging public exhibitions in their own exhibition spaces and other artist initiatives can be invited to exhibit at SUPERMARKET 2010.

About SUPERMARKET
The goal of SUPERMARKET, the artist-run international exposition of new art, is to provide a showcase for artist initiatives from all over the world and to create opportunities for new networks in the Swedish as well as the international art scene.

SUPERMARKET is concurrent with Market, a commercial art fair in Stockholm.

Every year SUPERMARKET has relocated; starting in 2006 in small scale in an art nouveau palace, the following year with international presence in the same site, 2008 moving to an industrial space, then to a newly built designer luxury hotel (Clarion Hotel Stockholm) and now to the very heart of Stockholm – Kulturhuset (the Centre Pompidou of Stockholm).

Initiated and organised by artists, this project has rapidly evolved from a modest group of local initiatives to a full-fledged international art exposition that has made its mark and helped firmly establish Stockholm on the art world map.

SUPERMARKET 2010 builds on the tremendous success of SUPERMARKET 2008 and 2009, which featured exhibitors from Canada, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Poland, Rumania, Russia, USA, the UK, and, of course, Sweden and the neighbouring Nordic countries, all part of a growing international trend of artist-run galleries, project spaces, artist collectives, independent curators and publications.
