TRANSFIXED MOTION | THE TRANSITORY STILL – CALL FOR FILM/VIDEO/PHOTOGRAPHY/SOUND WORKS, Sheffield Hallam University, UK (Lá Fora… 98)

In the closing of his contribution to the collection of essays, ‘Stillness and Time: Photography and the Moving Image’, David Campany postulates…

‘Photography has all but given up the ‘decisive moment’ in order to explore what a moment is; video art has all but given up movement, the better to think what movement is.……………….But must the speedy always be sacrificed in all this? Need slowness be the only way? At this key point in the histories of art and media, I think it is a question worth posing. And a pose worth questioning’. –Posing, Acting, Photography

The two notions of stillness and movement, and how these can powerfully conflict, contradict or compliment each other are the premise for the exhibition Transfixed Motion | The Transitory Still.

We are looking for submissions from recent graduates, early and mid-career artists, working in photography, film/video and sound art, to offer a response to the above quote.
