1st CAJASOL GRANTS FOR VISUAL ARTS PROJECTS 2008-2009 (Lá Fora… 109)
Over the last decade Art prizes and Photography Grants have had a radical effect on the development of the visual arts in Andalucia. In an endeavour to make this effect more enduring and to root it in the context of international art and in the integration of various artistic practices, Obra Social de Cajasol has set aside 125,000 euros for five grants for the execution of visual arts projects in any media or speciality.
Artists of any nationality may apply for these grants, either individually or as a group, and there is no age restriction. Nevertheless, one of the grants will be reserved for artists from, or resident in, Andalucia. The grants provide direct funding and are indivisible and non-transferable. Any other kind of institutional funding is incompatible with the bestowal of one of these grants.
Submission deadline for projects: until the 31 March 2009
Selection: before the 30 April 2009
A meeting with the artists to define the projects: before the 30 May 2009.
Presentation of works at a group exhibition in the Cajasol venue in Seville in March 2010.
25,000 euros for each project. This includes the entire cost of production, travel, accommodation, materials, etc. In effect, the entire cost of executing the project, as well as the author’s, or authors’, fee, which shall not exceed the sum of 5,000 &euro. This grant is subject to current tax legislation.
After the projects have been produced, the organizers will study each individual piece in order to provide all the necessary elements -installation and technical requirements- for it to be exhibited at the venue.
50% after the projects have been selected and before 30 April 2009.
25% in January 2010.
The remaining 25% when the project is publicly exhibited.
A curriculum -2,000 characters maximum- and photocopy of the National Identity Card or equivalent (passport) of the author or authors of the project.
A description of the project applying for the grant and 15 to 20 photographs of it. Other photographs -provided as slides or in PC compatible digital format- of works by each author corresponding to the two years before the submission deadline (up until 31 of March 2009).
The documentation may be submitted in Spanish or English.
The return of the material is optional and applicants should indicate their wishes to this effect in the documentation.
Participation in this event implies full acceptance of the rules.
The words “Work produced with the support of Cajasol Obra Social” must feature prominently in any printed matter associated with the project.
Obra Social de Cajasol may assess the progress of the project during the production process. This assessment will be made by Francisco del Río, head of exhibitions at Obra Social de Cajasol, assisted by Marta Puerta, exhibitions coordinator.
Obra Social will schedule the exclusive exhibition of the projects made by the artists, and will provide the means to gather information and documentation about them.
Obra Social de Cajasol reserves the right to publish and reproduce the selected projects in order to publicize and promote them.
Obra Social de Cajasol will select one of the works to be part of its Collection.
The jury’s decision will be final.
